I know this isn’t the best thread to ask this question. But it’s killing me. How many links per day/week/month would be too much?

What I’m afraid of is freaking out Google with a large quantity of incoming links (varying anchor text and deep linking of course) and them throwing my client’s site into purgatory.

See, I have the benefit of living in Thailand (been here for a year now) and having access to super cheap labor. I could rather easily build up an army of young, enthusiastic, internet surfers to build links by posting comments or whatever around the clock.

I’ve heard folks like Jonathan Leger say that it is wize to build links slowly but steadily. Probably no more than a dozen a day. Yet I see spammers using comment spamming tools to get 1000′s of backlinks to brand new sites in just a couple weeks, with no apparent ill effects. In fact, the site I’m thinking of is now on page 2 of Google.

If you’re so inclined to see what I’m talking about, here’s the URL of the offending site: http://vintageelectricguitarblog.com
Yes, it’s the same site that Mr. Dale and crew are using in the Challenge this year. No, they’re not teaching people to use comment spamming as a link building strategy. Apparently, they have an over-zealous fan.

How will google combat this in the future when it becomes a problem?

It’s hard to say considering “google news” is essentially a scraper, as is google search and google images… in fact, most of google is “scrape”… of course they do it legally, and people LOVE when google scrapes their content.
