agree post above. I used to work for a PR company as their computer guy. building the brand is a huge hurdle all new companies face. PR companies get your name in front of people by getting you in the paper/magazines for your niche or talked about on website. Same rules apply for your website. You want people to talk about your site so your core audience (big G) thinks you are the authority. You want to be the 80′s IBM brandname for your niche.

Thank you for your posts about Site Build It. I am a total noob who really wants to try building a site or two, and was about to plunk down the money. Guess it’s back to the drawing board and more research. Thanks.

You are in the right place! You will learn EVERYTHING you need to know if you invest some time reading and applying what you learn.
I took the information that Griz provides and I can get sites on the first page relatively quick — my shortcoming is getting backlinks from sites with PR; coupled with a “follow” tag…
I realize that there is a plethora of pages with info on it here, so if you need a little guidance navigating, and getting the necessary plug ins (Firefox) to ensure proper keyword and SEO content, I would be more than happy to share what I have learned.
You can only keep what you have by giving it back :-)

    Griz,

After reading more of your articles I finally get why you were mad at being posted at DP.

Cause it will hurt your CTR. ouch.

But in away I’m very thankful for that post cause that is where I found this blog.

If not for that unfortunate post I would still be listening to wrong advice.

But I hope nobody ever do that again. :p

    Griz,
I’m new here. I come from a point of view that true altruism does not exists. However, with that said, service to others has been one of the only ways I have truly found serenity and happiness in life. Service to others filled the doughnut hole.

    From the movie Peaceful Warrior:
Dan: “Hey Socrates, if you know so much, why are you working at a gas station?”
Socrates: “It’s a service station. We offer service. There’s no higher purpose.”
    Dan: “… Than pumping gas?”
    Socrates: “Service to others.”

You ask a good question, “if you were me, who would you spend your limited amount of time helping? Who would you trust? Should I continue to help all those people who email me regularly with questions who didn’t lift a finger to help someone else?”

It’s understandable to be frustrated. The first thing I learned in MBA Accounting was “there’s no free lunch… ever.” So even though you are giving away information, it is not free. You worked for it, but don’t expect all others to have the same work ethics or values than yourself.

Maybe you should just use an auto responder that says “It’s out there, go find it!”

And yes, it is hard to determine who is really working hard and who is just looking for a handout. Especially in the world of email and twitter. Too bad there’s not a gravatar that measures online karma points.

It’s easy to see how people like yourself who try to help eventually end up becoming unreachable. Everyone wants to be rich and wants the answers handed to them. If it was “that” easy, everyone would be doing it. But then… it wouldn’t be worth as much either.

Why are the great things and hard dreams so difficult? It’s God’s way of determining who is really serious. I’m rich beyond belief! I have everything I need within myself. No material thing or person can make me happy. I tried that for years…. trying to fill the hole with all sorts of things; money, drugs, alcohol, cars, women. Once they’re gone there’s one thing that’s always left, me. So I’d better learn how to have a loving relationship with this “me” character or this is going to be a long rough ride. (sorry, got off on a tangent…)

So I would say… really determine what’s in it for you. Determine what you really want out of this venture of helping others. If it’s praise or money, figure out how to measure that. If it’s just to help… then let everything else go. I’ve only been hanging out here for about a week, but you seem like a straight shooter and really want to show others how you’ve gotten to where you’re at. That’s admirable. In my experience attraction works better than promotion. Just keep staying real and asking for help in areas you don’t understand (like who to trust). No one knows everything. I don’t know CRAP about online ad marketing, that’s why I’m here. ;-)

I am truly impressed with the broad content of your blog. It is obvious that you know you subject matter and you are passionate about it. If only I had your writing ability I have bookmarked your site and look forward to additional updates.

I agree on the part of social networking traffic. All it does is increase bounce rate and thus affecting your site ranking. But all said and done online money making takes time and one should be patient but applying proven marketing strategies. Great article

Way to go Grizz… People always are looking as to how you can help them and when you ask them for something they seem to forget all about you…

Thanks for all your help it is appreciated here.

Not to minimize Griz’s venting, but I think a little drama gets the blog comments going and more search engine results with titles that get you to click the result and that’s what this is all about.

If the title of this article showed up in G’s results, I think it would increase click through ratio’s but that’s just a theory. I think the same with the SBI Don’t Buy It Post. People who are thinking of buying programs that they see online go to G and search for reviews and I’d be willing to bet that the ones that talk it down get clicked more. I know that alot of those that I’ve clicked in the past say Don’t But Whatever Until You Read This and in the end they still recommend you buy it.

We hadn’t posted anything yet either because we hadn’t had the opportunity to figure out where it fit in with what we were doing but I don’t think it’s a personal attack on us.

In the end, I think Griz knows we’re not out here milking him for information without wanting to reciprocate in any way and that those people if they exist, lol, know who they are talking about.

Well then, that’s that. I’m surprised you didn’t comment on my Grizzly picture. I think it spoke volumes all by itself.

    The Pope is Married? Well..

That certainly changes things up a bit don’t ya think? LOL

Grizz – I think you can consider the lesson very much learned by all considered.

  13. LarryG

Hey RT…where are you at in the PI? I will be in the Makati business district in Manila next month. Maybe we could get together and do lunch.

    Let me know.

  14. RT Cunningham

Larry, I don’t do Manila. ;-) I’m in Olongapo where it’s almost safe to drive.

  15. Tracey

    Hey Griz,

Latest post has links to RT & Justin – did I get the hint correctly?

    Take care
